A Weirdo Revolts Against Expensive Knives
For The Sake of Pork Butts

In 2014 Omar Rada got deep into the world of BBQ, specifically, pork butts. Needing a better knife he went shopping and found two options – $25 stuff that barely cut after a couple of weeks, or high-end ones that started at $150…per knife. Most people would choose an option and move on with life.

 

Not Omar. Angered by two crappy choices, he decided to figure out why there wasn’t an option for a great quality knife, without the expensive price tag.

1,000,000 American Airlines points later…

Omar did what any nutjob would do. He bought 40 different knives to test. Then got on a plane…

And two years later, Omar emerged with the strongest and sharpest Japanese steel in a knife that was light on costly features that don’t add much and heavy on comfort and durability. And by selling directly to customers, he could sell it for an even better price.

And two years later, Omar emerged with the strongest and sharpest Japanese steel in a knife that was light on costly features that don’t add much and heavy on comfort and durability. And by selling directly to customers, he could sell it for an even better price.

Hoping to raise $25K to start Misen, Omar accidentally raised over $1,000,000 on Kickstarter from 10,000 people like passionate home cooks, pro chefs, and his mom – who wanted quality kitchen essentials – without the bullshit price tag.

Which gave birth to a complete set of knives, all made with great steel, all practical and helpful for any kitchen.

Omar and the team started to struggle with the ethical dilemmas of making more knives when preaching the awesomeness of needing only one great knife.

It hasn’t been an easy ride (Omar’s gray hair count went up by 2000% in 8 years), but it’s been fun waking up every morning with a small team of passionate cooks, thinking of ways to rid the world of dull knives.

 

And the thought of 1,000,000 knives in homes all across the country keep Omar and the team going strong.
