Our mail-in knife sharpening kit comes with clear instructions on how to pack up everything, and we include protective sheaths which are easy to use with any size, shape or brand. Seal the mailer and then hand it off to the aforementioned USPS guy. Your blades will be well protected. And everything’s insured.

Our professional knife sharpening service team is based in Oregon, has worked in the restaurant industry for 25+ years, and is now 100% focused on this, ahem, well-honed craft. Everything is done by hand, piece by piece, with expert attention and care.

After placing the order, you’ll receive your mail-in knife sharpening kit in 3-5 business days. Mail back your dull tools; we’ll receive them 3-5 business days later. Our team sharpens everything to factory sharpness within 2 days, and mails them back to you. So, by our math, that’s 2-3 weeks, from start to finish. All of the shipping costs mentioned are included in the price. Plus, in the meantime, you’ll be cooking with razor-sharp Misen loaners.

We include a Misen chef’s knife and paring knife with the mail-in knife sharpening kit – both have been freshly sharpened. You can have some fun with these while yours are being cared for in Oregon. And when you get back your own knives, if you’ve fallen in love with the Misens, feel free to keep them at 50% off our retail price. Or, send them back in a prepaid mailer which comes with your sharpened knives. Your call. Either way is good with us. We can handle pretty much all types of traditional kitchen knives and cooking shears. However, there are some things our knife sharpening service can’t take on: Any knife blade longer than 16”, ceramic knives, blades without handles (including meat slicers), saw blades, micro-serrated or “ever sharp” knives, pinking shears or other crafty-edged scissors, hair-cutting shears, any scissors which can’t come apart, straight razors, switchblades, double serrated knives, swords (yes, swords). And, we know axe throwing is all the rage right now, but please, no.

Misen knives are designed to stay factory sharp longer than most, but all knives do need regular sharpening! Yes, we say this a lot, but it’s true – dull knives can slow you down in the kitchen and can lead to accidents requiring Band-Aids! It’s generally a pain – and expensive – when we need to get our knives sharpened. Professional chefs sharpen knives daily using a special stone. You can try this yourself, but it’s not easy. The knives must be held at a precise angle, each takes a solid ten minutes, and the whole thing gets messy. Another option is an electric sharpener, but those run hundreds of dollars and have mixed results; lower priced models don’t work so well and can cause lasting damage. Finally, the last choice is to bring everything to your local knife shop near you, but this involves time and planning (dropping them off, waiting, going back, etc.).
