My granddaughter bought me one for Christmas a few years ago. I have to say it makes the best spaghetti sauce. I heat the pan slowly as suggested, and the sauce stays at an even simmering temperature.
I originally backed the Dutch Oven on kickstarter. My wife loved Dutch oven cooking when she was younger. She has many fond memories of family get togethers centered around camping out with multiple families bringing dutch ovens full of various dishes and cooking them out on the campsite. So shortly after we got married, the kickstarter happens and I backed it because I really wanted to surprise her with something special and to start trying to make memories like that in our own family.
Unfortunately, the enamel chipped pretty much the first time she used it. It was only a small chip around one of the handholds, but we found it really odd since it was just a small drop of a wooden spoon that caused it. Sadly, it wasn’t a fluke. Over the years we’ve tried to baby it and really make it last (no metal utensils, hand wash only, cabinet on its own so no other pots or pans bang it accidentally) but every time it’s been used it’s come out of the ordeal with some new battle scar.
At this point, I’ve finally lost patience. I was washing it in the sink and went to dump the water when I noticed that the inner enamel had chipped in three spots. Up until now it was just handle and rim chips (not to mention heavy scratches inside), but it remained usable. Now it’s chipped on the inner enamel as well, and it’s just time to put this sunk cost out to pasture. It’s going in the trash with the next collection day.
