Kids! Meet Your New Knife (and Finger Guard)

This is your very own real cooking tool — made just for kids ages 5 and up. It’s not a toy, and you should always have a grown-up with you when you use it.

Your knife is special because it actually grows with you. As your hands get bigger and your skills get stronger, the knife has two different ways to hold it so you can keep leveling up.

How to Use Your Kid’s Knife

An overhead shot showing a child's hands slicing strawberries on a white cutting board. The right hand holds a Misen Kids' Knife with a blue handle and a stainless steel blade. The left hand wears a stainless steel finger guard while holding a strawberry steady. Several whole and sliced strawberries are visible on the cutting board and near the upper left. The word "MISEN" is visible on the knife blade.

Grip #1: The Beginner Hold

  • Grab the back of the handle — that’s where most kids start.
  • It’s covered in soft, grippy silicone so it feels good in your hand and helps keep you steady.
  • There’s also a built-in silicone barrier that keeps your fingers safely away from the blade while you’re learning.
A simple black and white illustration demonstrating "The Beginner Hold" for a Kid's Knife. A hand is shown wrapping around the handle of a knife with a rounded-tip blade. The text says, "The Beginner Hold" and "Wrap your hand around the knife handle, with all fingers clear of the bolster and blade."
A simple black and white illustration demonstrating "The Big-Kid Grip - Front" for a knife. A hand is shown pinching the knife's angled bolster with the thumb and forefinger, while the remaining three fingers wrap around the handle. The blade has a rounded tip. The text says, "The Big-Kid Grip - Front" and "Pinch along the knife's angled bolster with your thumb and forefinger. Wrap remaining three fingers around the knife's handle."

Grip #2: The Big-Kid Grip

  • When you’re ready to cut like a chef, you can “choke up” and use the “pinch grip.”
  • See those grooved trenches near the blade? That’s where your thumb and first finger go.
  • The trenches show you exactly where to hold the knife so you can learn the safest, most controlled way to cut.

How to Use the Finger Guard

An overhead shot showing a child's hands slicing mini cucumbers on a white cutting board. The right hand holds a Misen Kids' Knife with a blue handle, and the left hand wears a stainless steel finger guard while holding the cucumber steady. Several slices of cucumber are scattered on the cutting board. The word "MISEN" is visible on the knife blade.

The finger guard helps protect the hand that’s holding your food when you cut.

Before You Start

  • Never use the knife or finger guard without a parent beside you.
  • Hold the finger guard so the Misen logo is right-side up

How to Fit It

  • On the back, you’ll see a metal ring — this bends to fit your hand.
  • Slide your middle finger through the ring (or middle + ring finger if your hands are smaller).
  • A grown-up can help squeeze or widen the ring so it fits snugly but not too tight.

How to Care for the Kid’s Knife + Finger Guard

An overhead shot of a breakfast scene. In the center, a child's hands are using a blue-handled Kid's Knife to slice a peeled banana on a light wooden cutting board. To the left, a Carbon Nonstick™ pan contains a golden-brown pancake, with a blue, stainless steel fish spatula resting on the edge of the pan. A bunch of bananas is above the cutting board, and a blue bowl of strawberries is in the upper right. An adult's hands are arranging strawberry slices on a pancake shaped like a monster face.

Cleaning

  • When you’re done cooking, hand the knife to a grown-up.
  • The knife is dishwasher safe, so cleanup is super easy.
  • The finger guard can be washed by hand or run through the dishwasher too.

Sharpening + Honing (Parents only!)

  • The blade can be sharpened or honed whenever needed.
  • Both use a 36° blade angle.

Storage

  • Keep the knife in a safe spot where only grown-ups can reach it.
  • Make sure the blade is clean and dry before putting it away.
