Works Harder, Stays Sharper
A 5-inch serrated knife is the right tool for foods that a straight edge tends to crush or tear — dinner rolls, ripe tomatoes, citrus, and delicate pastries. The wave-shaped serrations on this ACUTO440 blade catch and saw through crusty or soft exteriors while leaving the interior clean, which makes it a natural counterpart to a chef's knife rather than a replacement for one. If your prep regularly includes sandwiches, brunch, or baking, it earns its spot in the block.
What sets this size apart from the 8" Serrated Knife is maneuverability: the shorter blade is easier to control for smaller items like bagels or peaches, while the longer version is better suited to full loaves. For finer detail work, like hulling strawberries or trimming produce, pair it with the 5.5" Utility Knife, which handles the in-between tasks a serrated edge isn't built for.
Because it's made from AICHI ACUTO440 steel, this knife resists rust even with minimal babying, though hand washing and drying it right away will keep it performing at its best. Serrated edges hold up well over time, but when it does need attention, Misen's mail-in sharpening service can bring the edge back without you having to do it yourself.
